Most Popular Special Edition Of The Year

FMG’s bestselling Special Edition issue of DIY GUNS is back for 2023 with more tips, tricks and projects for the at-home armorer. With everything from everyday workbench items to specialized tools worth the splurge, DIY GUNS is suitable for every stage of the gunsmithing journey — and every skill level.

Inside this year’s issue, feature content includes Jeremy D. Clough’s restoration process to a pair of damaged Mossbergs — a 500 and a 930 — that were shot with corrosive black powder substitute ammo … and since he was already at it, he includes a bit of a “modification” on them, too. Will Dabbs, MD builds an RPK-74M from a parts kit “rarer than a unicorn.” The end result, he notes, “looks like it came right off a Ukrainian battlefield.” With some elbow grease, time and patience, Frank Jardim takes a few Mauser wood stocks in abominable condition and restores them to their military-issue appearance in “Can This Stock Be Saved?”

Will Dabbs, MD bears a resemblance to the gangsters of yesteryear in the 2023 issue of DIY GUNS.

Building and modifying guns is one thing, making furniture for them is another altogether. Master tinkerer Roy Huntington takes to the woodworking shop to showcase how to build a gun cabinet for safely (and handsomely) storing a growing collection. Not to be outdone, Dr. Dabbs outfits his man cave with a coffee table built from an inert Czech Sagger antitank guided missile in its original shipping crate. He notes, “You can still take the missile out and play with it if desired.”

Additional highlights in DIY GUNS feature how-to’s on rust bluing, adding dovetail sights to a Walther, defensive-revolver modifications, fixing broken screw heads, stippling grips on polymer guns and packing heat like a zoot-suited gangster.
