Protect Liberty PAC’s Vital
Role This Election Season
Since being launched nearly a year ago, NSSF’s Protect Liberty PAC has been active in achieving its expressed goal of electing candidates who are dedicated to preserving and protecting liberty, freedoms and the Constitutional rights of all Americans.
Protect Liberty PAC is a “Super PAC,” founded to elect candidates who will protect the firearm and ammunition industry and defend Americans’ freedoms enshrined in the Bill of Rights. This PAC will expressly advocate for the election or defeat of specific candidates. Advocacy will be completely independent of any candidate or political party.
“This PAC enables all Americans to support candidates for office who believe our rights, enshrined in the U.S. Constitution, are protected and non-negotiable. Protect Liberty PAC will give a voice to those who will no longer allow political candidates to use them as a punchline,” said Larry Keane, Protect Liberty PAC’s treasurer.
As a Super PAC, the Protect Liberty PAC can accept unlimited personal and corporate contributions — giving a wide net to procure donations. However, contributions from foreign nationals, federal contractors, national banks, and federally chartered corporations are prohibited. Keane shared with so many large companies being federal contractors, it opens up an opportunity for other companies to have their voices heard.
Last week, SI touched on NSSF’s #GUNVOTE initiative — which is a separate endeavor, as a get-out-the-vote effort. Keane shared the Protect Liberty PAC can take a more targeted approach with expressed advocacy — specifically in the battleground states for the presidential election, as well as in U.S. Senate races.
“As a Super PAC, we can take contributions we’ve received and run a targeted ad in Montana, saying ‘don’t vote for [incumbent U.S. Senator] Jon Tester and vote for Tim Sheehy,’ — this is expressed advocacy, which we’re allowed to do,” he said. “These are independent expenditures, meaning we can’t coordinate these messages with campaigns. The more resources we have, the more we can do.”
Keane shared insight into the formation of the Protect Liberty Super PAC, as well as the importance of Republicans gaining control of the Senate.
“One of the reasons we launched the Super PAC is to fill the void left by NRA — and the resources they had in previous election cycles. We want to ensure Democrats don’t keep control of the Senate. If Vice President Harris becomes president and has control of the Senate, they’ll blow up the filibuster and attack our industry relentlessly,” he said. “This truly is the most important election of our lifetimes.”
Widespread Industry Support
Despite its first election cycle, the Protect Liberty PAC has already achieved noteworthy support from several firearms industry manufacturers, wholesalers and organizations.
Notable supporters of the PAC include: Silencer Central Founder and CEO Brandon Maddox ($50,000), Range USA ($40,000), the National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesalers ($25,000), Davidson’s Inc. Owner Bryan Tucker ($25,000), Silencer Shop Founder/ CEO Dave Matheny ($25,000), Lipsey’s ($25,000), Taurus USA ($25,000), Luth-AR President Randy Luth ($10,000), Grasso Holdings ($10,000)
“Political leaders are supposed to fight on behalf of the American people and be a safeguard against efforts to squash the rights enshrined in the Constitution. Too often today we see these same political leaders betray that solemn duty and instead attack the very traditions and freedoms law-abiding Americans revere,” stated NASGW President Kenyon Gleason. “NASGW and our membership representing firearm wholesalers, manufacturers, independent sales representatives, media and service providers in the shooting sports industry is proud to support NSSF’s Protect Liberty PAC.
“A Harris-Walz administration would be a complete disaster for the firearm industry and the livelihoods of tens of thousands of hardworking Americans who work in our industry and the over 100 million law-abiding gun owners in our great nation,” said Bret Vorhees, president and CEO of Taurus USA. “I challenge my industry colleagues to join this fight and contribute to Protect Liberty PAC because our rights and the future of our industry are on the ballot on Election Day.”
“We cannot lose sight of what’s at stake on Election Day. The future of our entire industry is on the line,” Luth said. “Our Second Amendment rights and Constitutional liberties must be safeguarded against ‘woke’ progressive and anti-gun activists now more than ever.”
The Protect Liberty PAC figures to be a staple in future elections — and the 2026 midterms aren’t too far away, either.
