NSSF Fires Back At Gun Control’s Attempts To Chill First Amendment Rights

NSSF defended the First Amendment rights of firearm manufacturers in a letter to the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) Bureau of Consumer Protection Director Samuel Levine. The letter was in response to several complaints by special-interest gun-control groups falsely accusing NSSF members of violating the Federal Trade Commission Act.

Letters were sent to the FTC by gun-control groups Everytown for Gun Safety, The Brady Campaign, Giffords Law Center and similar special-interest groups.

“These gun-control groups are not content in attacking and denying one Constitutional right. They are now bent on attacking another,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF SVP and general counsel. “These groups are attempting to abuse the levers of government to deny the right to advertise a lawful product even as they use those same complaints as fundraising tools. This is a disgusting attempt to twist the role of a federal agency as a neutral arbiter to one that uses the weight of federal authority to deny not one, but two Constitutionally protected rights.”

The FTC is an independent agency of the U.S. government. As such, it must guard against political activists attempting to bend the authority of that office to advance special-interest agendas.

Henry Continues Silver Anniversary Pledge With $50,000 Donation To VFW

As part of a $1,000,000 charitable pledge in honor of Henry Repeating Arms’ 25th anniversary, Henry President Andy Wickstrom presented a $50,000 check to Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Commander-In-Chief Matthew M. “Fritz” Mihelcic at the 123rd VFW National Convention in Kansas City on July 20.

“Henry Repeating Arms has been a longtime supporter of organizations that take care of our veterans, and no one does that better than the VFW,” said Wickstrom.

In late 2016, Henry Repeating Arms partnered with the VFW to establish a fundraising program that would raise money on a national level and offer individual posts the opportunity to enhance their fundraising efforts. Other direct monetary contributions to the organization now total more than $150,000.

Henry Repeating Arms CEO and Founder Anthony Imperato’s Silver Anniversary Pledge distributes, under the company’s Guns For Great Causes banner, a philanthropic arm benefitting a wide variety of charities and non-profits, including children’s hospitals, organizations supporting military veterans, first responders, law enforcement, wildlife conservation, hunting and shooting sports education and Second Amendment advocacy groups.
